Chennai's Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has ordered the suspension of the deputy jail superintendent in charge of Thekkampatti sub-jail. This action stems from significant security lapses that allowed 17 prisoners to escape after overpowering guards. The Tamil Nadu Police quickly recaptured all escapees through a coordinated operation, which included using drones. The government has also initiated severe punitive measures against negligent prison personnel and transferred several senior officials.
