50 years before E20, Tamil Nadu engineers did ethanol test drive
During the 1970s, Tamil Nadu's researchers successfully converted vehicles to function on 100% ethanol, showcasing impressive performance. Yet, concerns over food security hindered broader implementation. Presently, Anna University is keen to reignite this research with a focus on flexible-fuel vehicles and adjusting compression ratios. This initiative dovetails with India's vision to increase ethanol in petrol, fostering energy independence while tackling past worries about efficiency and agricultural impacts.
